St. Panteleimon
12TH CENTURY DESIGN INSPIRATION
The frescoes in the church are famous examples of Komnenian-era Byzantine art, depicting scenes from the Passion of Christ and various hagiographical illustrations. The coloring, dramatic composition and purity of expression displayed in the frescoes are outstanding examples of Byzantine medieval monumental painting in the later 12th century.
As a creative community, we envision an exciting possibility to draw inspiration from the design elements found in the 12th-century frescoes and incorporate them into a contemporary layout.
These exquisitely crafted patterns and shapes originated from the artists who adorned the church nearly a millennium ago. We take pride in the opportunity to re-imagine and incorporate their design elements into the new aesthetic of the church museum gift shop.
